Course Policy
| Policy area | Policy |
|---|---|
| Meeting time | Lectures meet Wednesday and Friday, 10:00-11:20, in 7/209, as per the Sem-I 2026-27 timetable. |
| Submission format | Submit one PDF per assignment using roll_first_last.pdf. Code, tables, or calculations may be included as annexures when requested. |
| Evaluation | Evaluation focuses on correct formulation, assumptions, interpretation, clarity, and engineering judgment rather than length. |
| Quizzes and exams | Quizzes may be surprise or announced. Exams are closed book and closed notes unless explicitly announced otherwise. |
| Devices | No phones, laptops, tablets, smart watches, or electronic devices unless explicitly requested for an in-class activity. |
| Class entry | Class doors close after 5 minutes. There is no attendance credit as such, but no credit or make-up will be given if a surprise quiz happens after a student is late or absent. |
| Course notebook | Students must maintain a separate course notebook and bring it to every class. Only this notebook will be allowed for open-notebook quizzes or exams, if any are announced. |
| Use of AI/GenAI tools | AI/GenAI tools are permitted for assignments, but students are accountable for every final answer, equation, plot, claim, and line of code. A viva on any assignment may happen at any time. |
Grading Policy
| Component | Weight | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Assignments | 30% | Four analytical/computational assignments. Evaluation emphasizes formulation, assumptions, interpretation, and reproducible reasoning. |
| Quizzes | 10% | Short closed-device quizzes, announced or surprise, focused on concepts, notation, and method choice. |
| Mid-semester examination | 20% | Closed book, closed notes. Covers probability, decision analysis, LP/optimization formulation, and interpretation. |
| End-semester examination | 25% | Closed book, closed notes. Cumulative, with emphasis on reliability, risk, resilience, networks, and infrastructure decision-making. |
| Project | 15% | End-to-end infrastructure planning or management study with assumptions, data audit, model or decision method, uncertainty discussion, and final communication. |
